Environmentology Collection
Basic Principles of the Environmentology Collection
April 2026
Kanazawa University Library has been developing the “Environmentology Collection” in the Natural Science and Technology Library under the Kanazawa University Environmental Policy, with the aim of fostering “Kanazawa University-brand human resources” who contribute to the realization of a sustainable society and of promoting research.
We have revised the collection policy established at the time of its inception in FY2010, and for materials newly acquired from FY2026 onward, we will adopt the concept of the “HAKKEN no MORI” established in the same library—“providing books that foster intellectual growth and cultivate broad perspectives and knowledge”—and will focus on offering materials that serve as fundamental introductory works on environmentology.
The following principles that have been upheld to date will also be maintained, and the Environmentology Collection will be continued.
- Interdisciplinary in nature: a collection spanning a wide range of fields across the natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences
- Reflecting the university’s regional characteristics as situated in Hokuriku and the Sea of Japan Rim
- Practice-oriented, taking into account opportunities for fieldwork in the Hokuriku region
- As a whole, a nationally distinctive collection that reflects two core elements: the local identity of “Kanazawa” and the global issue of the “environment”
Collection Development Policy for the Environmentology Collection
- Collect fundamental introductory works that serve as an entry point to environmentology.
- Collect materials related to the University’s environment-related educational programs (e.g., GS General Education Courses).
- Collect useful content regardless of format and provide it through the Environmentology Collection in the Natural Science and Technology Library as well as through related websites.
- Based on the concept of cultural coexistence, collect materials not only in Japanese and English but also in Chinese, Korean, and other languages.
- Materials will be selected by library staff, with recommendations also accepted from faculty members and students.
Recommendation of Materials
If there are materials you wish to have purchased for inclusion in the Environmentology Collection, please submit your request following the procedures outlined below. Materials will be purchased upon determination that they are appropriate for the collection.
- Please log in to the Library Online Services.
- From the screen after logging in, select “Request for Purchase of Materials” and click the “New Request” button.
- Enter the title, author, ISBN, and other relevant information for the materials you wish to request.
★ In the “Reason for Request” field, please enter “For the Environmentology Collection.” If this is not specified, the material will be shelved in another section.
★Please check the “Holdings Confirmed” box (after confirming via OPAC that the item is not already held within the University).
How to Use
The materials are located on the shelves in the “Environmentology Collection” corner on the first floor of the Natural Science and Technology Library. They are available for loan outside the library following the same procedures as for regular books.
