The “New Catholic Encyclopedia” is now available (JapanKnowledge Lib)
The “New Catholic Encyclopedia” has been newly added to the basic content of JapanKnowledge Lib, which is subscribed to by the library.
The New Catholic Encyclopedia (edited by Sophia School Corporation; published by Kenkyusha) is a comprehensive Christian encyclopedia from a Catholic perspective. The project was initiated at Sophia University in 1977, and the print edition (4 volumes plus 1 supplementary volume) was published by Kenkyusha between 1996 and 2010.
With approximately 15,000 entries and around 1,400 contributors, it is the largest encyclopedia of Christianity in Japan.
In addition to covering topics directly related to Christianity, it is characterized by its broad scope, including the histories and cultures of religions and peoples around the world. It is also well suited for understanding the history of Christianity in Japan and its major developments in a global context.
In the JapanKnowledge version, you can not only search for entries, but also navigate through the table of contents and follow links within the text and related materials to find topics of interest.
The database is updated once a year, incorporating newly added entries as well as revisions and supplements to existing content. We encourage you to make use of JapanKnowledge Lib.
