[1] General Library Use
A1-1.  I would like the library hours and location.

  During the term: Weekdays 8:45 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

  During vacation: Weekdays 8:45 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.

  We are open on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during the term.

– Please check the library calendar as we temporarily close the library at year-end and New Year holidays and summer vacation.

– The library is located on the first floor of the School of Health Sciences Hall 3.

– An IC card key is required to enter the School of Health Sciences Hall 3, in which the library is located, on Saturdays and after 8:00 p.m. on weekdays.

 

A1-2. Can a staff member of KU hospital use the library?
 Staff members of KU hospital can use the library as KU staff. The staff ID card is required to borrow books.

 

A1-3. Can a KU graduates use the library?
 KU graduates can use the library as visitors. 

 

A1-4. Can you issue a library card to a visitor? 

 Visitors wishing to borrow books, please inquire at the service desk. We can issue a library card to a visitor if a proof of residential address documents, such as a driver’s license, is displayed. You can obtain one at the Medical Library, the Central Library or the Natural and Science Technology Library.

 

※We would restrict the external visitors’ entrance when it is expected to crowded as in the exam term.
Furthermore, we restrict their entrance until 7 p.m. for the external visitor who is under eighteen.
Besides, junior high school students need to have parents’s permission to stay after 5 p.m.

 

A1-5. Can I enter the library on Saturdays?
 An IC card key is required to enter the School of Health Sciences Hall 3, in which the library is located on Saturdays. Only users who own one can enter the library.

 

A1-6. Can you purchase a book which the library does not own?
 We accept purchase requests from students at the Library Online Service, if they are related to research and study.
[2] Chekout/Return
A2-1. I want to extend the loan period.
 You can extend the loan period of books only once. Please prepare the books and your library card. You can renew them at the checkout machine, at the service desk, or via telephone. Please note that you cannot renew journals and audio-visual materials. 

 

A2-2. I missed the return date.
 Please return the materials as soon as possible. You cannot borrow any materials for a period equal to the time you were late.

 

A2-3. Can I borrow newly arrived journals?
 You can borrow one for one day only. Please fill out the prescribed form at the service desk.

 

A2-4. I want to know what materials I have checked out at this time.
 You can check your status at “Lending situation” in “Library Online Service.”

 

A2-5. Can a visitor borrow books?

 Those who own a library card can borrow up to three books (journals excluded) for two weeks. Please bring proof of your residential address, such as a driver’s license, to obtain a library card.

※For Jishu-kikin card holder, it is up to 10 books, including what you have already checked out.

[3] Search for Materials
A3-1. How can I know whether a book/journal is owned by the library?
 You can search for a book or journal at OPAC plus by title or author.

 

A3-2. I am looking for an article. How can I find it?
 Please use OPAC plus if you are looking for a book or journal. Please use a database to find articles located in a journal.

 

A3-3. Where can I find the book for which I searched in OPAC plus? 
 Please see the holding status in the search results in OPAC. If it is indicated as “保健図書室,”  the book is owned by the Health Science Library. Books are arranged by the classification order shown in the search results in OPAC. The classification number is shown on the back label of a book. 

 

A3-4. Where can I find the journal for which I searched in OPAC plus? 
 Please see the holding status in the search result of OPAC. If the holding status of the journal is “保健図書室,” it is owned in Health Science Library. Journals are arranged by year.

 

A3-5. The search result in OPAC shows words beginning with “保健.” Where can I find this book? 
 “保健看護” and “保健放射” indicate books owned by a laboratory. Please inquire at the service desk.
 “保健看護” and “保健放射” indicate books owned by a laboratory. We are sorry, but visitors cannot use them.

 

A3-6. I cannot find a bulletin from another university.
 Bulletins from other universities are located in the back of compact shelves.

 

A3-7. I want to reserve a book which has been checked out by someone else.
You can make a reservation in the search results in OPAC plus. Please submit “Reserve” bottun and input the ID and password which you use for the Library Online Service to complete the reservation.

 

[4] Photocopies
A4-1. Is there a photocopier in the library?
 There are two photocopiers which accept University Coop copy cards. We accept photocopy requests if the number of copies is small. (KU members: 20 yen/1 sheet, Non KU members: 35 yen/1 sheet)

 

A4-2. Where can I purchase a copy card?
Copy cards are available at the university coop. 50 copies cost 500 yen. Please buy a card at the university coop on the second floor of the School of the Health Sciences Welfare Facilities.
[5] Ordering materials not owned by the library
A5-1. I need a book that is not owned by KU library.
 You can request a photocopy or loan of materials that are owned by other libraries.
You need to pay from 35 to 50 yen per one copy plus postage (one way for photocopies and two ways for loans).

 

A5-2. How can I obtain materials that are not in KU library?
 Please login to “Library Online Service” with your Kanazawa University ID and order them at “ILL Request.”

 

A5-3. How can I receive copies or books I ordered through ILL service? 
 Please find the notice on which your name and price is written at the board next to the entrance of the library, and come to the service desk with exact change.

 

A5-4. Can external users order photocopy or loans of materials not in the library? 
 We are afraid we cannot accept ILL order from external users.

 

[6] Computers, networks, etc.
A6-1. What can I do in online service?
 You can use services such as “Lending and Reservation situation”, “ILL and Book request”, and “Booth Reservation.”

 

A6-2. I forgot my ID and password for the Library Online Service. 
 Please use your Kanazawa University ID and password for the Library Online Service. The password can be re-issued at Acanthus Portal.

 

A6-3. Can I search articles or dissertations?
 You can use three computers in the library to search articles. A Network ID and password is needed. You can use databases such as ICHUSHI web, CiNii, Scopus, etc. on computers connected to the university network.
 Please inquire us at the service desk to use databases.

 

A6-4. How can I read e-journals?
 Please follow the link shown in the search result of OPAC plus.
 Please inquire at the service desk.

 

A6-5. Can I use databases and e-journals off campus? 
 Some e-materials can be used through a VPN. Please see this link for details.

A6-6. I want to print my search results. 
  You can print your search results through the Acanthus printing system on computers located outside the library. A charged Student ID Card or Staff ID Card is necessary to use the printing system.
