Considerations When Publishing Your Paper as Open Access

There are low-quality academic journals whose primary purpose is to extract article processing charges (APCs) from authors. When submitting your work, it is advisable to keep the following points in mind.

  • Whether the journal’s peer‑review policy and review timeframe are clearly stated.
  • Whether the names and affiliations of the editors are publicly disclosed.
  • The quality of the published articles.
  • Whether the journal is indexed in reputable databases such as Scopus, PubMed, or DOAJ (note: this should be used only as a reference point, and being unindexed does not necessarily mean the journal is predatory).
