[1] General Library Use
A1-1. I would like to know the opening days and hours. 
 Our opening hours are as follows. 

Mondays to Fridays 8:30-21:00
Saturdays 10:00-16:00
Sundays and Holidays Closed

A1-2. I do not belong to Kanazawa University, but can I access to the library? 
 The library is open to everyone in order to read books and other materials. 
You do not need to show a student ID or other ID to enter the library, but if you are not affiliated with Kanazawa University, please fill in an Entrance Form when you enter.
■Please note that a library card is necessary to borrow materials. 
You can obtain a library card if you are an alumni of the University, a former faculty member, a resident of one of the three Hokuriku prefectures, or you work or study in Ishikawa Prefecture. Registration and card issuance are performed at the service desk. 
You need to present a residential proof (such as a driver’s license).
*Library cards issued to members of the general public are valid for the current academic year. 
*The same card will be used when renewing, so please bring it with a residential proof.

 

A1-3. Are food and beverages allowed in the library? 
 Food is prohibited in the library. However, you are allowed to bring a beverage in a container with a lid to the Medical Library.(Cans and paper cartons that cannot be sealed are not permitted)

 

[2] Where to Find Materials
Q2-1. I do not know where to find the materials I want.

The location of materials depends on the type of materials.

Q2-2. Does the library have newspapers?
 Today’s newspapers are located in the reading room.
Newspapers for the current and previous month are located in this room.
The earlier newspapers are not preserved. You are encouraged to use reduced-size editions of newspapers in the Central Library.

 

Q2-3. A book that I want to read is held by a research lab—can I borrow it?
Persons at the Takara-machi-Tsuruma Campus: You will be able to borrow materials directly from research labs and medical staff offices. If you do not know where a certain item is located, please ask the library staff.

Persons at the Kakuma campus: Materials can be copied or borrowed. Please ask at the Central Library or the Natural Science and Technology Library for detailed information.

Persons not affiliated with the University cannot use materials located in research labs. We hope you will understand our situation.

 

Q2-4. Can I go into the stacks?
You can enter the 3rd and the 4th stack. 
 Some part of the 3rd stack is forbidden to enter because bookshelves are undevelopment. 

 

[3] Borrowing, renewals, and returns
Q3-1. How many books can I check out?
 Borrowing periods and number of items are shown below.

Items up to  Period
Books 5 items 14 days
Bound periodicals 6 items 7 days
Unbound periodicals    3 items next day
DVDs 2 items 7 days

Persons not affiliated with the University can check out only books.

Q3-2. Can I check out magazines and periodicals?
 Unbound periodicals in the Medical Library can be checked out at the service desk. Please fill in a Loan Request form.

Please not that you cannot use perodicals which are not located in the Medical Library, because they were packed in cardboard boxes until the end of fiscal 2012.

 Persons not affiliated with the University cannot check out periodicals. Please make a photocopy of periodicals that you wish to read.

 

Q3-3. How can I renew a book? A book I have is due back today, but I forgot to bring it to the library. 
 Please login to “Use the online service” at the library website (using your Kanazawa University ID and password) and renew items that you checked out in “Confirm ” of “Lending and reservation “. [→Details]
Someone else is reserving the book or the material is classified as a journal, you cannot renew it. And also, you cannot renew an overdue material. If such is the case, please return it promptly.

 You can renew materials by visiting the library in person or by calling 076-265-2141 during opening hours.

Q3-4. Can I return a book I borrowed to a different library?
 You can return materials at the Central Library, Natural Science and Technology Library, or the Health Science Library.

 

Q3-5. Can I return books at night or on days when the library is closed?
 You can return materials at the book return box outside the entrance. 
The following items should be returned directly to the service desk.
・Books with CDs attachment 
・DVDs 
・Unbound Periodicals 

 

[4] Copying Materials
Q4-1. Are there any photocopiers in the library?
 There are two photocopiers in the library. One of them is a color copier and accepts Student Co-op copy cards only. The other one is a coin-operated copier capable of handling 1,000-yen bills.
* Student Co-op copy cards are not sold at the library. Please purchase the prepaid cards at Kanazawa University Co-op(Seiyo) service counter on the second floor of the Welfare Facility building. Please see the building no. 26 on the Takara-machi Campus map (PDF).

 

Q4-2. Why do I have to fill in a copy request form?
 You will need to obtain permission to copy other people’s academic papers, articles, and the like. According to the Copyright Law, this procedure (submitting a copy request form at a library) allows you to make a copy of an item without obtaining permission from its author. However, you will still need to obtain permission from the author to copy the entire pages or unpublished materials.
